The Big Ten network is on the verge of finalizing a deal with Insight Communications, the largest cable carrier in Indiana (and Louisville), according to Street & Smith’s Sports Business Daily.
The network will be on expanded basic cable in Ohio and will be available on the digital tier in Kentucky.
No word yet on what tier it will be on in Indiana and Illinois.
Still, when the network launches tomorrow, local Big Ten fans will have some kind of access to the network somewhere, which is welcome news for them.
The Big Ten had been holding out to be included on basic service in Big Ten states, and was asking one of the highest prices in the cable industry to carry the network, but cable companies had balked. The “expanded basic” inclusion in Ohio would appear a victory for the Big Ten, as that is de facto basic status.
Insight appears to have gotten its way in Kentucky, and it’ll be interesting to see what happens in Indiana.
