I’m looking for a phase of the game where U of L excelled in the first half.
That’s why there’s only 2 minutes left until the second half starts and I’m just beginning to write.
There wasn’t one.
What you saw in U of L’s first half was a total breakdown. Special teams have faltered. The offense, while it has moved the ball fairly well, has converted just one of 6 third downs and scored only seven points.
The defense has given up 14 points and special teams another seven.
After hearing all week that the defensive lapses were being addressed, being worked on, being fixed, on the very first play of the game Syracuse receiver Taj Smith runs open to the midfield Cardinal logo, stands there without a defender within 20 yards of him, catches the ball and runs in for a 79-yard touchdown.
This team doesn’t look organized, and it doesn’t look engaged. We’ll see what the second half holds.
