Hello from Columbia, S.C. and Williams-Brice Stadium, where the University of South Carolina will play host to the University of Kentucky tonight at 7:30. Above is my view from the press box (click on the picture for a larger view), and in this blog you’ll get my views throughout the game.
How big is this matchup. A look at the Associated Press’ weekly “How they fared” rundown of the top 25 shows only four matchups in college football this season have been between teams with combined higher rankings. The five biggest games between ranked teams this season (by AP ranking)
No. 6 Cal beat No. 11 Oregon, 31-24
No. 2 LSU beat No. 12 South Carolina, 28-16
No. 1 USC beat No. 14 Nebraska, 49-31
No. 2 LSU beat No. 9 Virginia Tech, 48-7
No. 8 UK at No. 11 South Carolina
Of those matchups, tonight’s game is the only one that doesn’t include a top 5 team, meaning that on paper at least, this shapes up as potentially one of the best games of the season so far.
As if anyone in blue and white needed to be told that.
There’s a light rain falling at Williams-Brice Stadium, a stiff breeze toward the north end of the field, which might play more of a factor than the rain.
Should be a good one, so keep checking back for much more.
