Screwing up

Tony Barnhart, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s outstanding college football writer, is sitting beside me in the press box, and put it very well.

“Kentucky has screwed this up about every way you can screw it up, and they’re still only down by 11.”

The defense is playing an outstanding game. But when your best players, guys like Andre’ Woodson and Rafael Little, make the most costly mistakes, it’s tough to overcome.

Those guys have enough time to atone, but it needs to happen now. SC is one score away from putting this away. UK has the ball at its own 31 with 7 minutes left in the third. Lots of time left. A fourth-quarter of the type they had at Arkansas would win this one going away, but eventually, falling behind because of your own execution will catch up with you.

  1. “Kentucky has screwed this up about every way you can screw it up, and they’re still only down by 11.”Eric that is an unprofessional comment. What a goofy rationalization. The old “as bad as we have played and we are only down 11”. SCs defense has absolutely manhandled UK. Woodson has made a real impression on the pro scouts and Heisman voters tonight. No poise! And of all people, Smelley, Boyd, and Davis have shown the Cats what playing in the clutch is all about. This is just another 7-5 KY team.

  2. Let it slip away by stupid mistakes. On a positive note, UK’s defensive backs looked fantastic. We could use a couple tonight vs Utah!Anyway, Eric, here’s hoping our Cards avoid the above title by playing a flawless game.
