Brian Brohm has hit on his first five passes, including four of them on an impressive 8 play, 75-yard drive that led to a TD pass to Harry Douglas, and the Cards lead 7-0 with 3:30 left in the first quarter.
The drive featured a good mix of run and pass, including a pair of carries by true freshman Bilal Powell (covering 12 yards).
Brohm’s first three passes on the drive went to Scott Long (15 yards with a good second-effort), a sharp pass on the run to tight end Gary Barnidge (21 yards) and a dump off to Brock Bolen that covered 12 yards.
Pitt will have to open up the playbook a little now. The Panthers haven’t thrown downfield yet.
Douglas’ TD catch was the 14th of his career, making him No. 9 on U of L’s all-time list.
