The second quarter here at West Virginia might well have been the best of the season for U of L.
The Cardinals outgained WVU 134 to 70 in the quarter. Brian Brohm was fantastic. He hit on 9 of 10 passes for 133 yards. And while the Cards ran for only six yards in the quarter, they outscored WVU 14-7.
You can’t say enough about the first-half play of U of L’s defense. One of the three WVU touchdowns was the result of a Cardinal turnover at the Mountaineer 25.
WVU superback Steve Slaton carried 6 times for 4 yards in the second quarter, and the Mountaineers had only 34 yards rushing in the quarter overall.
Pat White led West Virginia with 49 first-half rushing yards and also passed for 108 yards and two touchdowns.
Nothing wrong with U of L’s first-half performance besides some squandered first-quarter possessions that could have made this even more interesting. We’ll see how the second half goes.
