Congratulations to Jim McElwain, who has left Fresno State’s offensive coordinator position to take the same job with Alabama and coach Nick Saban.
McElwain was U of L’s wide receiver and special teams coach under John L. Smith from 2000 through 2002.
Those three years were good ones for Card receivers — he tutored Arnold Jackson, Zek Parker and Deion Branch.
Moreover, McElwain is a good guy, always engaging and pleasant to deal with, and you like seeing those guys move up the ladder.
He deserves a great deal of the credit for U of L’s spectacular special teams play during those years, something that went with him to Michigan State when he left with Smith.
