We’re 10 minutes away from the start of Game 1 in the NCAA Regional semifinals in Charlotte, N.C. North Carolina and Washington State are warming up, and as expected, Charlotte Bobcats Arena is filling up with the Tar Heel faithful.
Probably the first man into his seat in one lower section, about a half hour or more ago, was former Cardinals coach Denny Crum, who even walked down to floor level at one point to get a better view of the Tar Heels as they warmed up. Crum said he flew in with U of L president James Ramsey’s party and stayed in the team hotel last night.
I also spoke with U of L assistant coach Richard Pitino a few minutes ago.
“It’s a long day,” Pitino said.
Trying to keep a team occupied for a 10 p.m. tipoff is tough. The Cardinals practiced at about 1 o’clock, then headed back to the hotel to get off their feet and watch more Tennessee film. U of L’s hotel is near the UNC-Charlotte campus, and Pitino said the players were able to get out and walk around to work off any nervous energy.
In the row in front of me is former North Carolina star Eric Montross, now a broadcaster for the Tar Heel basketball network.
A few folks have written for my prediction on the game: I say Louisville by a dozen. And North Carolina by more than that.
More to come as the game gets closer.
