Matt Simms is leaving the University of Louisville, the football office confirmed this morning. The sophomore quarterback is likely headed the junior college route, and I can’t say it’s a surprise. Simms never quite made it up to speed as the backup quarterback this season, and the energy with which U of L coaches have been pursuing immediate help at QB on the recruiting trail showed Simms was anything but the heir apparent.
Still, it’s more attrition. I wouldn’t classify it as a major loss, but it’s still one the program didn’t need.
Meanwhile, there’s still lots of speculation, but not much hard information, on the future of offensive coordinator Jeff Brohm. Former U of L defensive coordinator Ron English has approached him about the offensive coordinator’s position at Eastern Michigan, though I doubt that’s the kind of job that would lure Brohm from his hometown. A chance to work with his old coach, Howard Schnellenberger at Florida Atlantic, however, might be.
We’ll keep watching . . .
