It’s an important U of L commitment that the Courier-Journal’s Jody Demling is reporting on his blog, that Lakewood (Ohio) St. Edward center Zach Price has made a commitment to play basketball for the Cardinals — and it’s important not just because Price is a top-40 player in the Class of 2011.
He’s important because he shows what U of L coach Rick Pitino has spent the past week trying to hammer home — that the beat goes on, especially in recruiting, despite a scandal filled summer.
Read Jody’s blog and you’ll see this quote from Price’s mother, Valerie, on Pitino: “His personal life is his personal life. That didn’t affect anything with us. You can’t be judged by that. It was the right fit for my son.”
That, of course, has to be music to the ears of Pitino, and Cardinal fans who might’ve wondered how the summer’s revelations might have affected Pitino’s ability to recruit.
Apparently, not much.
It was reportedly a good weekend for U of L on the recruiting front, with several key targets in town for the season-opening football game with Indiana State. This might be far from the last news to come out of that group that visited.
