Monday Morning Quarterback

With the Big Two state schools taking a bye week, the Monday Morning Quarterback is sitting out of the print edition today. But the web version, much like USC’s ownership of Ohio State, cannot be stopped.

Blue 10-12: That’s the range of point spreads I’ve seen for Saturday’s University of Kentucky-University of Louisville game in Lexington. I say the spread gets bet upward. Hard not to see the Cardinals as even bigger underdogs than this, especially when you consider . . .

Red 122: That’s how many points worse than Cincinnati U of L is. It’s simple math. The Cards beat Indiana State by 20. Quincy beat the Sycamores by 6. U of L is 14 points better than Quincy, which lost by 69 to Southeast Missouri, which lost 70-3 to Cincinnati on Saturday. I know, comparative scores are meaningless. Here’s something that isn’t: UC is the new Louisville, piling up ridiculous offensive numbers while dispatching opponents at the first sign of weakness.

Hut!
What Lane Kiffin may be living in soon if Tennessee doesn’t get it rolling. He came in talking trash, and that’s exactly what Volunteer fans got against an average UCLA team in Saturday’s loss at Knoxville.

First and 10: All right, this has nothing to do with anything, but did you see those two Georgia state troopers fist bump right in Steve Spurrier’s face after a late South Carolina pass fell short to seal the win for the Bulldogs? (See video above) Weren’t those two guys the cops in Superbad? It could have been worse. They could have done the fist bump with the little explosion at the end.

2nd and forever: Oklahoma State suffered as bad a Sports Illustrated jinx as I’ve seen in a while. They made the cover last week, then got pounded by Houston. Which gives us pause for a classic Mike Gundy video clip.

Fourth and 3: That was the down and distance when Michigan quarterback Tate Forcier took off running 31 yards for a touchdown that put the Wolverines up 31-20. This Forcier kid can
play.

Tailgate reminder: Folks, use caution when tossing football before the game. This from TMZ. Former Stone Temple Pilots front man Scott Weiland showed up at a Hollywood party with his face all banged up. When asked what happened, his publicist said he was hit in the face with a football while he wasn’t looking before a Notre Dame game. Just be careful out there.

Pregame entrance: U of L recruit Dylan Curry told cardinalsports.com that he got “cold chills” watching the Cardinals take the field for their season opener against Indiana State. Not to say that the Cards don’t make quite an entrance, but somebody might want to test that kid for Swine flu, all the same.

The Picks: Just one this week, but it’s a big one. UK by 18 over U of L.

  1. Hey, Eric. I love the entrance. I thought the timing was off bit. Funny, just like the passing palys were. Also, JayZ and MTV Video Awards use a similar entrance last night.
