I’m no stranger to Salt Lake. My brother, Joe, is co-host of the city’s top morning radio show. I was here just this summer for Joe’s wedding (an account of which you can read here on my non-sports blog.)
Got in late last night and went to dinner at Lamb’s Restaurant in downtown Salt Lake City — in a building that used to house a newspaper, the old Salt Lake Herald. And while I don’t quite want to think about how to recycle newspaper buildings just yet, it was a pretty nice place.
As an added bonus, this morning in the workout room, I saw none other than Cardinal great Darrell Griffith, who used to star with the Utah Jazz and has lots of friends in town.
As for the football game, you can almost sense the depression when you watch interviews with Utah players talking about last week’s loss. This is a program that, plain and simple, is not used to losing. When it happens, it’s a big deal.
It’s hard to tell how that will affect the team. On Wednesday, Utah coach Kyle Whittingham had a black mesh wrapped around the fences of the practice field to keep out prying eyes. It’s probably safe to assume Utah will have a few new wrinkles for the Cards this week.
More to come as we approach game time . . .
