Best. Opening session. Ever.

I know it’s only the first round, but what we’ve seen this afternoon with one close game after another has been without question the best opening session of the NCAA Tournament that I’ve ever seen. One after another, it has been wall-to-wall drama from the opening tip of the opening game — a double-overtime thriller in which Brigham Young and Florida put on a show.

Murray State registered the best shining moment of the early bunch, with its buzzer beater to send Vanderbilt home in the first round (again).

Villanova should have lost to No. 15 seed Robert Morris.

It’s been a rocky start for the Big East and a horrid start for the SEC, which lost half its NCAA Tournament contingent before the thing was four hours old.

It’s a beautiful day in New Orleans, but I’m having trouble leaving the TV. Hope the night session is half as good.
