Barnhart statement on Bledsoe

In an interview on the UK radio network prior to tonight’s Kentucky-Florida football game, UK athletic director Mitch Barnhart said this regarding the Birmingham school board’s report on Eric Bledsoe:

“I want to be very careful to honor the privacy of Eric Bledsoe. He has been drug through this thing, and the teacher and the superintendent upheld the grade that he was given, and that’s it. We’re done.

“I feel horrible for Eric Bledsoe that he had to go through that. I am embarrassed for the people that brought it up and tried to hurt the kid. I always tell people, it wasn’t about Eric Bledsoe. They were trying to hurt Kentucky and they were trying to hurt John Calipari. And that’s not fair to Eric Bledsoe.

“We’ve had several conversations with people at multiple levels. We consider the matter closed.”
