For all that has been said and written about the U of L defense this season, it has been the offense that has failed to sieze some of the team’s biggest opportunities.
It had several chances to push out its lead against UK, but came up empty. And today, after two N.C. State turnovers, it has managed just field goals both times.
Both times, instead of looking for the big plays on the play after the pick, they ran the ball inside. And after a Rod Council interception set them up at the N.C. State 27, an ill-advised fake sweep resulted in no gain, then a short crossing route to Mario Urrutia gained just two yards. Not sure why Urrutia is getting short crossing routes. The last pass of the drive was badly underthrown by Brohm, who was throwing at a covered receiver anyway in the end zone.
N.C. State should be looking at a big deficit, instead they’re just a score away from being right back in it. Just like U of L was at UK.
U of L leads 13-0, with 4:01 left in the first half.
